WHY DID YOU UNDERATE THE INTERNATIONAL FREIGHT FORWARDER APPRENTICESHIP?
I wanted to develop my current knowledge of 2 years in the industry by gaining a deeper understanding of what I am actually doing on a day-to-day basis. By doing the apprenticeship I was able to get a more well rounded knowledge of the industry as a whole and learn a lot of new things in different areas of freight forwarding.
COULD YOU GIVE US AN OVERVIEW OF YOUR APPRENTICESHIP?
My course was split into four sectors of the freight forwarding industry. These were the movement of goods via international trade, customs procedures, business costing and finance and customer service. I am able to now apply those skills in my day to day work. I feel more confident on my knowledge of shipping terminology now. My course was done in the office throughout, with my tutor coming to visit regularly. Due to Covid-19, I finished my apprentice and undertook my EPA remotely, which was not a problem at all.
WHAT WAS THE MOST CHALLENGING ASPECT OF YOUR APPRENTICESHIP?
I initially found a few of the pathway questions challenging as they were on terminology or transport modes I was not that familiar on. However, I was able to do some research and find out what the terms meant, enabling me to answer the questions. In the long run this worked well as I ended up expanding my knowledge.
HOW DID YOU FIND THE MERLIN TEAM?
The Merlin team were fantastic with me. We had a number of really insightful lessons on both the course and other areas of life. Whenever I had any issues I felt as though I was able to speak to them with confidence and any problems were resolved extremely quickly.
WERE YOU EXPECTING TO PASS WITH A DISTICTION?
No, I was not. My aim throughout the course was to get a pass grade. I thought I might be able to touch on a distinction but did not expect to achieve one overall.
IN AN IDEAL WORLD WHAT'S NEXT FOR YOU?
For me now it is about using the skills I have learnt over the last two years in my everyday work. I hope to be able to put my training to good use and see the benefits of learning the new knowledge I have.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH US?
I would recommend this course to anyone who is keen to learn more about the freight forwarding industry. The course covers various aspects of the industry that perhaps you would not be exposed to in an everyday working environment.
