Congratulations: Knights of Old Apprentice Petre who passed his CAT C (Rigid) driving test with Merlin Academy. Petre joined Knights of Old as an apprentice on 10 September 2018.

Q: Why choose an apprenticeship:
A: I started as an apprentice after my brother who worked at Knights of Old 3 years ago, recommended the apprenticeship to me as a great way to start my career. I was also looking for job security.

Q: What attributes will you bring to the role of a driver:
A: I am calm and level headed, I also treat people the way that I would like to be treated, it’s very important to me.

Q: Where did you work before coming to Knights of Old?
A: I have worked at both Weetabix and Sealed Air as a forklift driver.

Q: Do you have any allegiance yet to a truck manufacturer?
A: A Volvo or a Scania, preferably a Volvo, I hear great things about the safety of Volvos.

Q: What did you have for breakfast this morning?
A: Cereal and coffee, always coffee.

Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I love to travel, favourites so far… Paris and Amsterdam.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 3 years?
A: Driving tankers, tanker drivers are highly skilled.

Congratulations from all of us at Merlin Academy.

Congratulations: Knights of Old Apprentice Matt who has just passed his CAT C (Rigid) driving test with Merlin Academy.

Matt started as an apprentice on the 10 Sept 2018, the day before his 30th Birthday. He arrived with a degree under his belt, his provisional licence and medical in place.

Q: Why choose an apprenticeship at 30?
A: Job security and an improved work life balance. I was working on a self employed basis in London, but the commute was time consuming. My dad is a BP tanker driver, driving as a profession has always been on the radar.

I considered funding my own CAT C (Rigid) training, but was worried that after training I would lack the job insights and the on job experience that an apprenticeship would give me

Q: What attributes will you bring to the role of a driver?
A: I am level headed and people focussed

Q: What worries you most about driving as a profession?
A: Day 1 driving on my own, I will be out of my comfort zone and the potential for tachograph infringements concerns me

Q: Do you have any allegiance yet to a truck manufacturer?
A: MAN, so far it's all that I have driven

Q: What did you have for breakfast this morning?
A: Toast and coffee

Q: What did you do at the weekend?

A: As a family we attended Center Parcs for a long weekend.

Congratulations Matt from all of us at Merlin Academy.
